cyanotype, turmeric anthotype (fading when exposed to light) on watercolor paper

Imperfect images created to be temporary.

We put so much value in photography as a device to assist our memory, as mnemonics for events that once occurred. No photo could ever reveal the perfect truth about what is lost to time, though. Say, in a photo of a deceased family member, you’re only seeing an impression of what they looked like while posing for a photo. What isn’t captured is so much more. Their personality in its entirety: the way they laugh at your jokes, the softness in which words roll off their tongue, the crookedness in their smile—all lost to time.
